Canton Invitational

The girls gymnastics team competed in the Canton invitational this past weekend. Competing against the best teams in the state, they placed second with their highest score of the year, a 141.2. They came close to beating last year’s state champion Rockford, losing a close meet by only 0.45.

It was a great showing from the team as they move forward through the season. At this point they are undefeated at 4-0.

Senior captain, Grace Spencer led the way and won the all-around championship in division two. This was an outstanding accomplishment against a very tough field of gymnasts. Grace medaled in every event. She has worked hard all year to get to this point. She is learning how to compete against the best in the state.

Sophomore Sophia Yee also had an outstanding meet placing 4th in the all around competition and medaling on all four events. This is Sophia’s first year on the team. She is proving to be a very tough competitor at such a young age.  She is a very calm, competitor who gets the job done.

Senior captain, Marnie Jacobs turned in a beautiful floor exercise routine and took first place. Marnie continues to excel on this event by earning a 9.45 the past two invites. These are very impressive scores.

Sophomore Leah Hodge won the division 1 balance beam competition in only her second meet of the year that she has competed. A great sign moving forward for the team. She is a polished gymnast who is continuing to get in shape after time off from the sport.

Sophomore Elena Anzivino placed 3rd on vault.  This is her favorite event.  Elena is very explosive on her vaults and she gets awarded accordingly. She also has the ability to be a great all around gymnast as she is talented on all four events.

Ayla Hougard, a freshman, showed her skills on the uneven bars and came home with a medal. Ayla scores well because she has beautiful form. She has a lot of potential and is only getting started in her high school career.

The team is showing that they are a talented group of individuals who like to compete.  This makes for a fun, exciting season.
