Female Athlete of the Week - Alyssa Murphy

Alyssa Murphy

Coach's Comments: Alyssa consistently leads in all aspects. On the track she leads the team in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter dashes and also runs the anchor leg on the 4x200. Her contributions in these events led to a narrow victory over West Bloomfield at our last dual meet. What is more impressive is the positive attitude she brings to the track and a strong work ethic. I look forward to a strong finish for Alyssa this season.

Teammates' Comments: Alyssa is a hard worker, has an amazing attitude and always makes her teammates feel important. She is the teammate everyone wishes to have.

Alyssa is very humble and a great at multi-tasking, she is determined and always strives for the best. She is a great sport, extremely supportive and dependable and kind. Alyssa is an amazing athlete and person all-around.

Female Athlete of the Week 3/11-3/18 - Ava Farquhar - Gymnastics

Ava Farquhar

Coach's Comments: Ava has been a captain of the team the past two years.  She has the innate ability to lead by using her competitive spirit to encourage others to compete in a very positive manner.   Ava has improved each year, mainly due to her grit and attitude. She placed 4th in the all-around at the regional meet. She also placed first on the balance beam.  She has been part of a group of gymnasts that were actively involved in becoming State Champs last year. She continues to lead this year as the team prepares for the State meet competition this weekend.  Any team with an athlete of her caliber would be very fortunate.

Teammates' Comments: Ava is a determined athlete and a faithful friend. She goes out of her way to care for everyone on the team no matter what they need from her. Ava fights for everything she has earned in gymnastics and I can’t think of a more deserving person. I am lucky to have competed by her side for three years, and even luckier to call her my best friend.

Female Athlete of the Week 1/27-2/2- Molly Simpson - Basketball

Coach's Comments: Molly scored 15 points, on 5 three point baskets, versus Stoney Creek.  The Raiders fell in a close 45-42 OAA Red battle. She is leading the team in scoring this season, with an 11 point average per game.  Molly has hit 33 three pointers this season and is shooting at a 30% clip from behind the arc. She has stepped into more of a leadership role in the program this year and is doing a nice job.

Teammates' Comments: Molly is tremendous teammate on and off the court. Her positive attitude leads our team regardless of any situation. She allows our team to reach our full potential with her personality and athletic ability. I couldn't imagine a team without her.

Molly is a very positive teammate. She never says anything bad about the team, but instead gives us tips on how to be better. She is always making us laugh, even after a bad game. She is a great captain leading us on, and off the court. She always works hard, even if things aren’t going her way, and she never gives up. The team wouldn’t be the same without her.

Female Athlete of the Week 1/20-1/27 - Lizzie Coleman -Skiing

Coach's Comments: Lizzie Coleman is returning from an early season ending injury last year. She spent the early training this season overcoming the psychological impact of closing on gates at speed. She spent last season supporting the team at competitions and returned for her junior year as a captain. In her first competition this year she placed first in the opening heat and finished 11th overall for the competition. Lizzie is the sparkplug of the team and is lifting individual and team scores by her enthusiasm and drive to improve.

Teammates' Comments: Lizzie is the ultimate moral booster; she definitely deserves this!  She is always at the top of the ski hill getting everyone pumped and giving tips. She has bounced back better than ever! She always brings a welcome vibe of positivity and is very helpful in giving constructive advice to both new skiers and experienced racers.

Lizzie is a great teammate and captain. She’s not only supportive and encouraging but leads the team by example. She is willing to listen to ideas and does her best to pass on these ideas and relay information. I know I can count on her; she always stays up at the top of the ski hill after her race to give tips to all of the younger racers and provide a smile and encourages everyone to have a great run.

Male Athlete of the Week 1/20-1/27 - Justus Clark - Basketball

Coach's Comments: Justus has put in a great amount of time and made many sacrifices to become a good basketball player and leader. He has always put our team first over his personal accomplishments and it shows with the way he leads our team day in and day out. I couldn’t be happier for him not only receiving this accomplishment but also for hitting two last second free throws to beat Farmington in our last year of the city championship.

Teammates' Comments: I believe Justus leads the team on and off the court. He works hard everyday at practice as well as in the classroom. He puts his team before himself and wants to see us all do well. He definitely deserves something special like this.

Justus has been one of the best teammates someone can have. He’s a pure leader on and off the court. He is someone you can count on to do the right thing. Everything he’s done has helped the team; he wants what’s best for the team! This is a well-deserved award.

Female Athlete of the Week 1/13-1/20 - Olivia Deming - Gymnastics

Coach's Comments: Olivia has rebounded from a torn ACL injury last year to post her highest score yet on the vault at the Rockford Invitational; she ended up placing 9th overall in a very competitive meet. Her determination, passion, and desire to succeed were crucial in this achievement. It takes a special athlete to come back from such a devastating injury. Not everyone is willing to put in the hard work and dedication to pull this off. Those that do are typically very successful in life; these same qualities earned the position of team captain. Olivia is a true leader who is going to make things happen in her future.

Teammates' Comments: Olivia is my best friend and is the strongest person I've known. She has the best work ethic; often pushing herself past her comfort level during practices in order to get better each day. She has never once given up; she embodies the word fearless. She promised herself to do one thing that scared her every day and often that meant trying a new skill or getting an old trick back after injury. She is a leader both in and out of the gym; always checking on teammates and friends to make sure they are doing well. She constantly puts others before herself and will stop at nothing to do her part to make the world a better place.

Olivia is one of the most amazing people and gymnasts I know. She is constantly pushing herself & trying to improve no matter how she is feeling. She's incredibly hardworking and determined, even when she faces a setback & things get hard she pushes through tem and comes out better on the other side. Not only in gymnastics but also in school and in life; she always takes on difficult times and situations with a smile. Olivia is so caring about others and will always support people; even when she is feeling down, she always tries to stay positive. Olivia's motivation inspires me everyday!

Ben McColl - Hockey

Male Athlete of the Week 1/13-1/20 - Ben McColl - Hockey

Coach's Comments: Ben is a captain on our team and leads by example on and off the ice with hard work and determination. We are currently ranked 8th in the state in D1 with an 11-2-2 record and Ben is a major reason for it. Through 14 games this season, Ben has 22 goals and 10 assists; averaging over 2 points per game.

Teammates' Comments: Our team goes as Ben goes; when he starts working hard and scoring during a game, that gives our team an extra jump. When I'm on the ice with Ben, I know we have a chance to score some goals. He is to play on the same line with.
